Citizen Science - Bioblitz

Join us on Saturday 26th August, 9:30-11:30am in Harmony Woods, for our final citizen science session of the summer. It will be another bioblitz, where the aim is to record as many species as possible within the timeframe. It's another opportunity for more bug hunting, wildflower ID, bird ID, and tree ID, and we'll have a pond-dipping station too.


The session will begin at 9:30am, so please arrive by 9:25 to sign in. We will aim to finish around 11:30am.

Invertebrate collection / Bug hunt

Join our Ecology Intern Laura on Saturday 29th July, 9:30-11:30am in Harmony Woods for a session on invertebrates (bugs!).

We will be using ‘pooters’ to collect bugs around Harmony Woods and identify them.

Evening Bat Walk

Evening Bat Walk

Join our Ecology Intern Laura on Friday 7th July in Harmony Woods for an evening bat walk. Exact times are yet to be confirmed, but due to the time of dusk the session is likely to start between 8 and 8:30pm.

No experience necessary, we will be using bat detectors. You will also be able to see how a moth trap is set up, and there is the opportunity to rejoin us on the Saturday morning to see the moths that have been caught, before a Bioblitz event.

Join our Ecology Intern Laura on Saturday 24th June, 9:30-11:30am in Harmony Woods for a walk and talk on wildflowers. You will learn to recognise some of the species we have in Harmony Woods and understand why wildflower meadows are so important.

Citizen Science Event - Trees

Our Nature in Harmony citizen science sessions are back! These are monthly ecology-based events for all ages. Led by our Ecology Intern Laura, you will learn about some native British flora and fauna and have a go at some basic survey techniques to see what is present in Harmony Woods.

Join us on Saturday 29th April for the first of these events - a walk and talk on trees. We will start at 9:30am and be finished by 12pm. From then on the sessions will take place on the fourth Saturday of each month until September:

  • Saturday April 29th - Trees

  • Saturday May 27th

  • Saturday June 24th

  • Saturday July 22nd

  • Saturday August 26th

  • Saturday September 23rd

All future sessions will be added to the Events Calendar when confirmed, so please do keep checking. The order of these is still being decided and will be confirmed soon, but will include wildflowers, invertebrates, pond dipping, moth trapping, a bat walk, and a Bioblitz.

Evening Discovery Walk

Evening Discovery Walk

Saturday September 24th , 5-6:30pm

Come for a very chilled, laid back walk around the woods in the early evening. We will have a look at the foraging species present in the woods and collect some tree and wildflower seeds, followed by a tasting of jellies and chutneys that have made from Harmony Woods fruits. We will have the bat detectors on hand just in case the conditions are suitable for bats (but we cannot promise anything due to the lateness in the season!)

Painting on Wood with Wildflower Walk

Come for a guided walk around Harmony Woods with our graduate intern and be introduced to some of the most beautiful, rare and interesting species present there. We will be walking as one group so it is important that you arrive promptly at 9:50 am, for a 10am start.

Followed by a wood painting craft session.

Use the wildflowers (or whatever you fancy) as inspiration for painting onto some of our leftover pieces of larch and cedar (leftover from last year’s cabin frame build!). You will be able to take your creations and new wildlfower knowledge home with you :)

This is for all ages and abilities! Equipment is provided.

When Saturday June 18th 10 am - 1pm (including refreshment break)

Prices (this is to cover cost of the prepared timber blocks and painting materials).

  • £7 per adult includes painting on prepared timber blocks

  • £4 per under 18s includes painting on prepared timber blocks
