Over £3,500 raised for the woodland classroom by the Andover Trees United community
Andover Trees United have raised more than £3,500, over a 5-day campaign, on the international crowdfunding platform, GlobalGiving.
The platform offered match-funding on all donations up to $100 (£72) as part of its Climate Action Week. Andover Trees United accessed all $2,000 of match-funding on offer thanks to 88 donors from as far afield as Montana USA and Alberta, Canada however the majority of donations came from the local community.
The organisation also ranked 9th out of 118 projects globally in amount raised and 3rd in number of unique donations.
Project founder & leader, Wendy Davis said “The generosity that we’ve seen over the last week has been fantastic and we extend our gratitude to all the donors for their support”. Wendy continues “This is a tough time for a lot of people and raising such a fantastic amount towards the woodland classroom demonstrates how important the project is to our community”.
The build of the off-grid, woodland classroom, volunteer based, green-crafts workshop and community space is planned to go ahead this summer. The Carpenter’s Fellowship will build the structure and members of the community are invited to get involved.
The building of the cabin celebrates the completion of 10 years, seeing 10,000 trees planted by 10,000 children from 25 local schools. Wendy Davis from Andover Trees said, “10 years on, the wood is nearly complete (can you believe it!) and the dream of building a woodland classroom is about to become a reality.”
The fundraising page for the project remains open as the target has yet to be reached, however, match-funding by the platform has now finished.
