As soon as we got the timber back to our workshop we put it 'in stick' to allow it to dry out. In 2 of the attached photos you can see that the wood is a darkish colour with a big colour contrast between the middle and edges of the boards- these photos were taken shortly after the tree was felled. The other attached photos are what the timber looks like now, as the timber has begun to dry out the colours have faded. Before the timber is completely dry we intend to use a small amount of it for steam bending- the ash will bend easier when it still has some moisture in it. The bent ash will be used for the chair backs. Once the rest of the timber is dried out we will begin making 2 dining chairs, we will start by planing and thicknessing the timber so that it has flat surfaces which makes it easier to work with. After over eight months of patiently waiting for the timber to dry out we are starting to get very excited about using it!
