Andover Trees United Hosts "Midsummer Magic Festival" to Celebrate Intergenerational Community and the Environment
Andover Trees United is excited to announce its upcoming afternoon of "Midsummer Magic," a community gathering dedicated to celebrating, in music created by the late Paul Sartin, Jackie Oates and Justin Wiggan for our Voices in Harmony project 2002, the beauty and importance of our local trees, wildflower meadows and natural environment. This special event will see Jackie leading our Voices in Harmony pop-up choir as they sing the specially composed Tree Shanties first performed in the wood two years ago, alongside more traditional harmonies and sing-along songs for children and the young at heart of all ages. We are delighted that exciting new dance group Mayfly Morris will also be joining us.
The event will take place on 15th June 2024 from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM in Harmony Woods and will feature a variety of activities, performances, and educational opportunities for all ages. "Midsummer Magic" aims to bring the community together through music and nature and be fun for all the family!
Event Highlights:
Gates Open: 12:30 PM
Picnic: Bring a picnic to enjoy before the festivities start! (Bring folding chairs and blankets to sit on)
Woodland Wildflower Walk & Nature Trail: Join us for a special woodland wildflower walk, that showcases Andover’s local chalk wildflowers while they are in bloom and buzzing with life! This walk will take place from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM and again 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, led by our Ecology Intern, Katie Sell. Participants can join the tour or follow the nature trail at their own leisure.
Live Performances: From 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM enjoy a pop-up intergenerational (we hope some younger singers will join us) choir performing pieces inspired by nature and the environment, led by acclaimed folk musician Jackie Oates and the jigs, rhythmic stepping and stick wielding of Whitchurch-based Mayfly Morris.
Afternoon Tea: Enjoy a home-baked Afternoon Tea provided by Andover Trees United volunteers, within the Hazel Circle or in the newly built Cabin, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
"We are thrilled to host 'Midsummer Magic Festival' and bring together the Andover community in celebration of our shared environment," said Liz Scrace, Trustee of Andover Trees United and enthusiastic singer. "This event is a wonderful opportunity for residents of all ages to connect with nature, learn about the vital role trees play in our ecosystem, and enjoy an inspiring day of music and community."
