Andover Trees United Joins Andover Carnival Procession: A Day of Fun and Community Spirit
The Andover Carnival on Sunday, July 21st, was a spectacular event, and Andover Trees United was thrilled to be part of the vibrant procession that brought the community together in celebration. The carnival, a beloved annual tradition, saw an impressive turnout, with local organisations, businesses, and residents coming together to create a memorable day celebrating the Carnival’s 100th year. ATU’s participation was driven particular by Amy Ingram, a dedicated volunteer of the charity’s, who work tirelessly to ensure everything was ready on time.
Andover Trees United, a local environmental charity dedicated to tree planting and conservation, joined the procession with a colourful and imaginative float. The float, the charity's Land Rover adorned with handmade decorations representing various invertebrate species and wildflower turf, was a visual highlight of the parade. ATU Volunteers and members of Andover Ladies Circle, dressed as bees and butterflies to symbolise some of the important insects that can be found in the chalk grasslands of Harmony Woods, walked alongside the Land Rover, waving to the crowd and collecting donations. A special thanks to ATU’s dedicated volunteers, without whom the float wouldn’t have been created.
Wendy Davis, the founder of Andover Trees United, shared her excitement about participating in the carnival. “It’s always a joy to be part of such a wonderful community event. The Andover Carnival is a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with local residents, raise awareness about the importance of our project, and share our passion for environmental conservation in a fun and engaging way.”
The day was filled with laughter, learning, and a strong sense of community spirit. For Andover Trees United, the carnival was not only an opportunity to celebrate with their neighbours but also to inspire more people to take an active role in preserving and enhancing the natural environment.
“We had a fantastic time at the Andover Carnival,” Davis said. “The enthusiasm and support from the community were truly heart-warming. We’re excited to see new faces at our upcoming events and to continue working together to make Andover greener and more beautiful.”
The Andover Carnival once again proved to be a highlight of the summer, bringing together diverse groups for a day of joy and celebration. Andover Trees United hopes the future looks bright for both the town and its natural surroundings.
