One Ash project sketchbook/journal begun. I collected my beautiful timber yesterday and today spent ages on the phone contacting local sawmills to ask for help milling it down into useable Bookmatched boards…

These are immature Ash tree seeds.
In my research for #oneashtree with Andover Trees United I discovered that they are edible. I found some windfallen yesterday so I have attempted to follow a recipe to pickle them.

I have been getting to know my Ash wood through exploring the texture of different sections with rubbings and drawings. I will also be using some of my wood to print with and expect to have fun making printed patterns onto paper that will eventually end up inside some of the books Intend to create using my Ash Wood. Also the Book-matched sections, that a friend milled for me, have been resting. I am about to start learning about traditional bookbinding methods to attach boards to book blocks and will have some prototypes to share soon.
JUNE 2022
From Tamsin’s Instagram update, 1st June:
“Sketchbook flip through! I’ve been having a much needed moment with my sketchbook for the One Ash Tree project with @andover_trees this afternoon. Collecting my thoughts and making plans for the exhibition in July @casartists I have enjoyed the challenge of responding to my share of the Ash wood that I’ve been living with for 2 years now! I am working on a participatory book-art sculpture involving a rather large chunk of trunk and little scrolls. More to do yet and enjoying the journey.”
