Chris’s summary:

Stage one was to size and document all pieces. I assigned each piece of wood a number and took pictures of them as they were when I picked them up.

More pictures document how each piece was cut down into more manageable pieces, and logs were split into halves in order to minimize splitting as they dried.

Nothing was thrown away at this stage, including the smaller offcuts. Some of the wood went straight into storage to allow it to dry, but some initial turning was done - roughing into basic shapes that can be turned again once the wood has dried and maybe changed shape.

At this point all but one of the original pieces of wood are in that drying phase. So far there has been a little splitting, but mostly the pieces seem to be in good shape.
One piece - designated log 5 - has become a complete piece of work. Not turned, but used as the basis for a pyrography work.
