Community art club - Wild Mammals!

native mammals.jpg

We are encouraging everyone to get out and explore and create artwork inspired by his or her local wildlife, each month focusing on a different theme. This month – Wild Mammals!

From voles to hares, deer to dormice, bats to foxes, all of Britain’s mammals matter.

Very sadly, a quarter of native mammals now at risk of extinction in the UK.
National Mammal Week will take place from Friday 23rd October to Monday 30th November. Designed to raise awareness about the conservation issues faced by Britain’s wild mammals, the week (well, ten days) will be packed full of activities, suggestions and information. For more information, visit the Mammal Society website: www.mammal.org.uk

Noticing and appreciating nature is even more fun when you involve art and a drawing, painting, model, mosaic, photo... whether in town or country, is a great way to do this.

Each month we will celebrate four pieces of art. One will be chosen by the volunteers and one will be chosen by a special guest. And just to make sure everyone has a chance of being chosen, the names of all who send in a contribution will be ‘put in a hat’, and two names will be drawn out.
We hope that this can be a fun and educational experience and can help us all to learn to respect and admire all of the wildlife around us.

There will be a small ‘prize’ each month for each of those selected ... all entries will be featured on our website and may even be included in our new signage at Harmony Woods!

This month’s theme, Wild Mammals! Runs until 31st October, and winners will be announced a week later (all being well!).

Don’t hold back because you think you can’t draw, your creations won’t be judged for artistic talent, and the competition is open to absolutely everybody - so please get involved!

Please send all entries to eve.johnson@andovertrees.org.uk . Include the artist’s name and some contact details... and we will contact you if your artwork has been selected for a prize!

Good luck!
Have fun!
