Meet our volunteers - Terri
This is the second in our series of blogs profiling the fantastic people who volunteer for Andover Trees. Next up is Terri who started volunteering for us in July 2018. Terri is a full-time carer and she volunteers with Andover Trees one day a week.
What first attracted you to Andover Trees?
I am a very pro-active person so when I heard about the positive action Andover Trees were taking I just thought what a brilliant concept and I immediately wanted to be involved.
What sort of volunteering do you do for the organisation?
The work I do varies from week to week but includes tree planting and preparations for visiting groups, recruiting volunteers, supporting vulnerable adults/children, administration, helping with PR, events, refreshments and housekeeping, attending training sessions, learning green crafts and coppicing!
What do you gain from this voluntary work?
Friendship and great satisfaction for sure! I find myself working with like-minded motivated people, in the great outdoors and it’s lots of fun. I also gained a First Aid certificate too!
What has been the most moving experience since working with Andover Trees?
Transforming the woods for the lantern parade in December. We put up loads of candles and tea lights and it really is a magical experience.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering for Andover Trees United?
I would say give it a go and see what you think! I really feel like I am making a difference in my local community and its a great feeling so get in touch!
What do you miss the most since lockdown?
I miss having a chat and a cuppa with everyone. Just sitting and taking in the wildlife and calmness (and the cake!). I walk my dog (on a lead) in the woods most days as it is close to home so I’m lucky. I can do a site check and also appreciate the new season with all the subtle changes.
